11 – Back Rides

Welcome back! I am very sorry that there has been a long interruption just when this was getting off the ground. We were traveling for part of it, and it was hard to pick this back up again, even though Franklin has been on our minds a lot. Doing this is a way for us to remember him in a happy way but getting back into the rhythm has proved a bit more challenging than I thought it would. Hopefully there will not be as many future interruptions, since my next few months are fairly clear.

With that out of the way, let’s move on to today’s post – piggyback rides! Franklin loved to go for rides, something which he discovered that he could do whenever he was being held with his paws on one of our shoulders. This was something he wanted to do, not what we made him try and it was actually challenging to hold him sometimes without him digging in his claws and pulling himself onto our backs.

Sometimes he’d use this more as a step down to the ground. Franklin never liked jumping down from too high, a consequence of being kind of blind. But often he’d just settle down and chill for a bit on our backs, enjoying a new surface and the view. There was one time he was on Anna’s back for a solid 15 minutes after which he decided enough was enough and leapt down.

A very exciting recent addition to this was riding on my shoulders, something that Anna helped Franklin do in order for him to explore the hangers in my closet. He would do this by partially standing on my shoulders and then putting his paws on the hangers and balancing between us. Franklin loved to explore and he also liked hanging around on my shoulders too.

Tongue out! I’m thinking a lot about this guy and all the crazy adventures we had. I feel like I wish I could spend a whole day just goofing off with him and taking him to see all the sights in our tiny apartment and playing games. There definitely would have been some back rides in there too.

Love,

Garrett & Anna
