Franklin loved to run in the hallway outside our apartment. We probably shouldn’t have done this. But we did it because he was so charming and curious and we thought he’d love it and he did. It started with him being curious about our front door and us just letting him poke his head out. Being fearless, Franklin quickly did a total exploration of our hallway and then went at full throttle down it. He was so happy he was hopping!

Pretty soon, Franklin was asking for “hall time” and we would let him go out, sniff around, and get a few jogs in, all under supervision. Whenever someone would open their door or the elevator would ding, Franklin would get frightened, not I think out of fear but more because he knew he wasn’t technically supposed to be doing it and didn’t want us to get caught. He would race back to our door whenever he heard someone coming.

The problem was that Franklin started wanting his hall time pretty frequently and also started trying to get a quick run in whenever we came in or left the apartment. As a result we usually had to juggle him, especially when we were bringing in something big.

One time, I came back into the apartment and noticed that I didn’t see Franklin. I’d gone out earlier but thought he was napping at the time. But then Anna saw a note in our elevator saying that a “Blind kitty” had been found wandering around the 6th floor! “She” was still in the person’s apartment and it turned out Franklin had snuck out and somehow gotten all the way up two flights of stairs! Funnily enough, her apartment was at the same place in the hallway as ours. Franklin did know his way back but being blind, couldn’t read the floor numbers.

He acted like he didn’t even know me when I came to get him. What a guy.
Love,
Anna and Garrett
